Page Text ---------- Water Island St. Thomas Water Island at 490 acres is less than one mile in length. it was officially transferred to the government of the Island Map U.S. Virgin Islands on December 12, 1996. Before that time, it was owned and administered by the Department of Interior. St. Thomas Charlotte Amalie is the capital of the U.S. Virgin Islands and the island is one of the most popular cruise ship ports in the Caribbean. St. Thomas is a mixture of winding hills and countryside. At 32 square miles in size, it is easy to explore the entire island.
